Death Doula and Caregiver

Welcome to Light of Love

My name is Mare Martell. I am a graduate of Going With Grace’s End-of-Life Doula training. I have achieved the goal of becoming NEDA Proficient as a Death Doula and am a current member of NEDA (National End-of-Life Doula Alliance).

What is a Death Doula?

The doula’s goal, and role, is to help the client feel safe and comfortable, complementing the role of the healthcare professionals who provide the client’s medical care. Unlike a physician, midwife, or nurse, a doula cannot administer medication or other medical treatment or give medical advice. An individual may need to complete training to work as a doula, although trainings and certification processes vary throughout the world.

I am non-medical support through the grief and paperwork. I assist in End-of-Life planning, resources for the dying, as well as a viable support during the entire process. I offer help creating ritual and/or space for grief as a Death Doula. Conversations they may not feel comfortable with having are welcomed. If they are beyond my skill level or resources, I am an advocate for professional level care.

I am a NOTARY PUBLIC in the state of Tennessee.

Testimonials

“Mare came to care for my husband during his last few months of his life. It was such a relief for both of us! Bob loved having her. She read to him, helped with baths and generally made everything better. It became difficult during the last days of hospice. Mare worked with aides and nurses as he was actively dying. I highly recommend Mare! She goes beyond a typical helper. I’ve even recommended her to my friends.” -N.L.H.

“Mom needed help and thankfully Mare was available. She was a friend when my Mom couldn’t get out to see her other friends. As Mom became more frail, we occasionally needed more help. Mare always found time for her. My mother relied on Mare and trusted her. She showed Mom love and respect. Mare helped us through my Mother’s last days and I can’t thank her enough.” -C.S.

“I hired Mare to care for my mother in her last years of life. I could not have found a more compatible fit for Mom. Mare cared for my mother but most importantly, she cared deeply for Mom. I will always be grateful.” -A.D.
